Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall consisting of a vertical light blue sword, hilt and pommel gold between two gold wrenches crossed saltirewise, all encircled by a continuous crimson scroll, the upper area surmounted by the point of the sword and the lower area inscribed "SUPPORT WITH DISTINCTION" in gold letters.

Symbolism
Crimson and light blue are the colors used for Maintenance units. The sword is indicative of the complete arsenal of military weapons and components and together with the wrenches alludes to the basic mission.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 2 Oct 1970.

That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Army Reserve: From a wreath Argent and Celeste, the Lexington Minute Man Proper. The statue of the Minute Man, Captain John Parker (H.H. Kitson, sculptor), stands on the common in Lexington, Massachusetts.
